Hi! My name is Danielle De Lanoy and I joined Cardinal in 2019 as one of our EL teachers. I grew up in Fairfax, Virginia before leaving to brave the cold winters of northern Ohio to go to Oberlin College, where I studied history and East Asian Studies. After that, I spent 3 years on the JET program in Japan, where I had a wonderful experience teaching English in elementary and middle schools in Fukuyama city, Hiroshima. I took the (very!) scenic route home and traveled for a year from Mongolia to Iceland on my way back to the US. Back in Virginia, I worked at the Embassy of Japan while finishing my Masters in Teaching Culturally, Linguistically Diverse and Exceptional Learners at George Mason University. I first joined the team at Oakridge ES as the 3rd grade EL teacher before coming to McKinley where I currently work with our 4th and 5th grade ELs. Whenever I can, I am out traveling or hiking. Closer to home I spend my time cooking, knitting, and training Aikido, Karate, and Tai Chi.

I love teaching Reading and English Learners at Cardinal! I started my career at APS as a 1st grade teacher at Barcroft Elementary School. I got my undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘em Horns!), my Reading Specialist degree from the University of Virginia, and my Masters in English as a Second Language education from George Mason University. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, cooking, taking long walks, sewing, and spending time with my husband and two kids.
